Our tow unit was based on old fashioned beverage delivery trucks. Red was selected as the base color to stand out and then gold and wood color accents give it a classic look.
Our float features our big and beautiful bison, a saloon, a pasture and a modern building.
The initial design idea for the float was the capture items that people can recognize are associated with the Americana theme of Krewe of Chasco but was designed to represent "America Through Time".
The float is towed by a 1970s Dodge one ton van that has been converted to our tow unit. The team who built the tow unit was inspired by 1940's & 1950s beer, whisky and wine delivery vehicles which could been seen all across America during that time period. The tow unit has bead storage and built in trash receptacles to support walking participants in parades. There is also storage for all the Krewe's parade day staging area needs, so folks do not have to constantly get on and off the float to setup the staging area. Of the four whisky & wine barrels on it to complete the look of a beverage delivery truck, one is from Buffalo Trace distillery which is fitting since our bison always follows close behind.
The design team for the float wanted to capture the spirit of our theme by presenting; "America Through Time" on the float. Starting that off is our big boy bison, Buford, grazing the Great Plains. Our fans love our bison and constantly attempt to throw beads back to ring his horns so we encourage this with a #beadthebison message and we track the trending of said hashtag. Next after the bison is our old west style watering hole, The Freitas Saloon. The saloon was built using old pallets to give it an authentic look and feel. Following the saloon, there is some pasture fence railing to keep our wild animals (Krewe members) safely contained in our pasture. There are several grab rails and places for folks to hold on during parades to keep them safe, and even a place for a thirsty Krewe member to make themselves a fresh Iced Tea or Lemonade. Beyond the pasture is a set of steps on both sides for participants to easily board or de-board the float. Next up is wrought iron style railing to indicate you have arrived in a more modern time in America. The final stop is the modern brick building which houses our potty, a separate changing room, the sound system hub and a slew of member storage bins.
Lastly, our float is wheelchair accessible so we can accommodate anyone who wants to participates in a parade.
